WIP: Facing the Giant of Fear
I don’t believe in chance, but I do believe in fate and I do believe in God.
This WIP Wednesday, I’m not focusing on my work of fiction as much as I am the battle ahead. Life is full of them and sometimes it seems like every day is an upward climb. I’m a Christian, but I’m not perfect. I still haven’t found my home church. I don’t do my devotional every day or pray every day like I used to.
Monday, I changed that. I was intentional. I did my devotion in the morning. I prayed.
My devotional was on facing the Giant of Fear. It wasn’t until today that I realized that devotional nor the ones after, were by chance. It was intentional. And not by my design. God was speaking to me in that still, small voice. Telling me I was about to have to face the Giant of fear and a real-life villain. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. One that painted me as the villain and tried to alienate me from my support system, not just now, but for more than thirty years. That didn’t work and neither will this.
I can’t get into the details of what I found because it is considered privileged, but Monday, the day that I started putting God back in my life was the day I found out what I would be facing. It wasn’t meant for me to find so soon. I never received notice. No sheriff at the door. No letter in the mail. Nothing.
Yesterday, I spent my time writing my own responsive pleadings. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. A cursory review from an attorney produced only one additional word to what I prepared. That strength, that solace I found in doing something about it, being proactive, being intentional, it didn’t come without my own support system. One that would never be shaken. My God, who has been looking out for me since the time I was conceived.
“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39
So, Moving Target didn’t get the attention I hoped for in the past week. Life seldom lets you follow your own plans, but it wasn’t a total loss. Progress was made. But progress didn’t come only in fictional worlds. It came in real life. If it counts at all, I got 1,340 words in my pleadings and almost 500 for this post. I’ll accept that. I’ll move on. I won’t stop writing. I won’t stop fighting. I’ll pray and trust in the God who made me. Who knows me. The real me. And that relationship I have with God, the wolf will never touch.
